Marriage & Divorce Records

Recent marriage licenses can be requested at the Marriage Desk in the Clerk’s Office. No marriage records exist in Indiana before 1882, but in 1882 some countries maintained a separate marriage return book. Licenses between 1818 and 1835 are small, loose pieces of paper generally listing the bride and groom, date they were married and the officiant. They rarely list the woman’ father or mother. You can look for these marriage certificates but there ae many gaps and are not online. You can go through eight volumes of marriage records to find older marriage licenses.
